As part of the course, students go through summer training in print media and prepare a brief report. They also undergo functional exposure in electronic media and submit a project report on the same. Students are provided with the best equipment for their project work like Apple IMac computers, tripods, DSLR cameras and lights by the institute leading TIPS as one of the best colleges for BAJMC in. Experimental based learning is promoted by the institute through mock activities like conferences, interviews, seminars, campaigns, radio & television programmes etc. which is instrumental in skill enhancement. Moreover, students actively participate as volunteers for organising various events such as the annual College Fest, Internship Fair, Placement Fair, and various seminars.
 
Celebrity talk series- The initiative of Celebrity Talk Series aims to provide a platform for students to interact with experts in various domains of film making, journalism, media communications etc. In the last talk in this series, TIPS saw the presence of eminent film personalities like Ms. Flora Saini and Ms. Laila Panda in the campus who gave valuable insights in the field of Media to students. The institute has a tie up with T-Series for conducting Value added courses for ‘Still photography’ and ‘Dramatics’. The institute also has tie-ups with industry experts to conduct value added courses such as ‘Filmmaking.

The course is designed considering that the BA(JMC) graduates will be able to:
  • PEO1: demonstrate professional conduct and apply knowledge gained of professional ethics in media industry
  • PEO2: can apply research techniques in pre-testing/evaluation of media material by conducting media research and writing a report. They can also demonstrate proficiency of skills to translate and write for various media effectively
  • PEO3: can demonstrate proficiency of technical knowledge learnt by them during their course time by capturing aesthetically rich photographs, making feature stories, designing various forms of graphic and visual communication and creating layouts
  • PEO4: Will be able to write on various platforms of media and for different visual context

  • PEO9: Enable students to know socio-political and economic structure of the country which helps them to reach the public, report human interest stories and take the voice of unheard to the government.

  • PSO1: Mission: The mission of the Department is to prepare the responsible journalists for society who are well equipped with an understanding about human psychology and a cutting edge research attitude to evaluate society and human behavior. The course further tries to evolve them as media professionals where they can create an environment which nurtures new ideas, creativity, research to develop them in the form of leaders and innovators in their domain.
  • PSO2: Pragmatic Approach: The course is a perfect blend of theory as well as practical knowledge. Practical projects along with the regular industry connect sessions provide students with an overall knowledge support while carving a niche for themselves in the industry.
  • PSO3: Artistic and Scientific approach: On one hand where subjects like Communication theory, Contemporary India and Environmental science inculcate an empathetic and artistic approach in the students. On the other hand subjects like Print Media, Television Journalism and photography instill students with a scientific outlook to get things done.
  • PSO4: Holistic Personality Grooming: Personality, Attitude and Communication skills are the basic traits required for working in the media industry and this course very well caters to all these needs. The curriculum of the course is designed in such a way that at every step, some good values are added in the overall personality of the student. To add in this, regular grooming and nurturing by the experts enable the students to become the face and voice of the industry.
  • PSO5: Employability factor: Journalism and Mass communication is an interdisciplinary course. The programme opens up new opportunities for aspirants who want to excel not only in media but in other spheres of corporate also. This course provides them with a knowledge of almost every discipline like Management, Computer science and Economy.
  • PS6: Ethically upright future citizens: Personal mentoring , industry interaction and subjects related to working ethics across industry make pupils well aware of Do’s and Don’ts of the Industry. Subjects like Contemporary issues and Media laws not only apprise them about the industrial ethics but also about what is expected of them in society and how they can contribute in the development of the nation.

Eligibility Criteria:
For IPU Admissions 2023, a student should be passed in 12th Class of 10+2 of CBSE or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and must also have passed English (core or elective or functional) as a subject.
 
Admissions Students Intake
The intake is 60 students for first shift and second shift each.
 
Admissions through Management Quota
A candidate must have satisfied above mentioned eligibility criteria and obtain CET-GGSIPU Rank. The Institute conducts admission for 10% seats under management quota which is done on the basis of merit of qualifying examination and CET-GGSIPU Rank.
 
 
Course Structure
Each academic session of the course is divided into two semesters (August-December & January-May). In each semester, examination and evaluation is carried out according to the scheme laid down by the University. Every paper is of 100 marks.
  1. Internal assessment contributes 25% of the total marks on the basis of written test, assignments, presentations, attendance etc.
  2. External assessment contributes 75% of the total marks which is conducted by GGSIP University at the end of every semester.
  3. Passing criteria: A student must score minimum of 40% marks in each subject (Internal and External Assessment combined together)
